Finally caught up with BBC's Sherlock...

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 30, 2011, 1:53 PM
Marathon-watched it on Monday during the wee hours in a temporary state of insomnia. A thing of beauty it was. Being a big Derren Brown fan, my dad recommended the series to me last year knowing I would enjoy their similar meticulous qualities and flair as well as the series in general. The classic Holmes with Jeremy Brett and the books will naturally follow suit sometime in the near future.

There's not one character I don't like… well, maybe Sally. And Anderson, probably because his face does put you off and you need at least one character to tease, for comic relief purposes or otherwise. The writing is superb; intense, clever, dynamic, bestowed with colourful yet subtle subtext to my delight. I now understand why the majority of fanatics see it ripe for shipping/cracking/giffing/meme-ing/etc. To be perfectly honest, the slash writes itself. Whether I'll delve into the lulz or pr0ns further or make a contribution to it (probably fanart as usual as I can't write for toffee) remains another matter! The score is wonderfully composed and mesmerizing. I hope the soundtrack will be released someday.

And of course, there's Sherlock's arch nemesis; the doom-laden reprobate that is Jim Moriarty. I've had a thing for villains since I was little (not sure what that says about me) so was naturally drawn to him from the beginning. Thanks to inadvertently stumbling over spoilers, I knew it was 'Gay' Jim from IT. Andrew Scott 'playing gay'? *scoffs* Still, it didn't stop me from enjoying his nonchalant, sartorial swagger and his flamboyant, campy, childish and terrifying exchanges with Holmes. And his pretty face, despite looking like the lovechild of Ant and Dec and a tad like Jimmy Carr when he's 'surprised'. XD

Bring on Series 2!

The Strippers Return...

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 12, 2011, 7:02 PM

I've known about this since June and ashamed for not expressing my excitement for it here sooner. Pity there's no Ade but hopefully that'll be made up for in his secret plan with Rik!

I don't know if it's my congenital scepticism or my stubborn nostalgia but I have a feeling it's not going to quite live up to the gang's heyday. Nevertheless, I still continue to countdown the hours...

...asdfgythjkl

That is all!

(ETA: Crappy review copied pasta'd from my Tumblr. If you follow me there, ignore this)

Despite the lack of Dawn and Ade, The Hunt For Tony Blair fully lived up to my expectations; sharp, silly, and satirically spoofed at just the right degree (although will enjoy it more after a second viewing as was a little distracted by everyone else's reactions on Twitter, thankfully mostly positive). The characterizations were uncanny, especially Nigel's Mandy and Jen's second portrayal as the Iron Lady. Seeing Ford Kiernan as an emotionally unstable Gordon Brown was quite a treat, being an avid Still Game fan. Peter Richardson's cameo as an Al Capone-like Bush in particular was fantastic.

I'm not the most political savvy person on the planet; a smattering of the news and HIGNFY get me buy but would appreciate satire more if I was a bit more educated. Having said that, it has re-injected my curiosity in film noir. Yay for themes, references and horizon broadening!

Overall, a marvelous, well written and beautifully shot comeback from the gang which continues to ooze future-film potential after 4 decades. Viva les Strippers!

Latest edition to the family, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST5032D, the poor man's Cintiq (£90 from ebay) (That bass playing banker Grigson seems to be getting the better of me!)

Specs: Win 7, 2GB RAM, 60 HD. Runs like a dream for a 6 year old grandaddy of slates. Even more so with the Wacom driver, Sketchbook Pro and Paint Tool SAI installed. (Photoshop CS3 and CS5 were too slow and laggy so have made done with CS2).

Before any of you digital artists go all "OMG WANT, NEEED!!1", etc., I spend 3 days scouring Nerdsville, wracking my brain and gasming over dozens of different makes and modules before settling for this (most of which were the tablet/laptop convertibles, too bulky for my current needs).

It takes a bit of getting used to if you've never drawn directly on screen before or a vast improvement if you were using a smaller one in the past (in my case, the little Motion). The on-screen keyboard can slow the work process a good bit if you've developed an automatic reflex with your physical one for shortcuts. My left hand still gets restless from time to time!

The device, I feel, is best used for sketching/non-serious artwork; after which, I'll transfer to my main work area. And of course, for surfing, wasting time on Youtube, porn, social bragging, etc!

Huzzah, I finally popped my theatre cherry! The two year wait was well worth it. Naturally, I'm eager to divulge about the show (no spoilery for now) but all I'll say is, he does a fantastic Stewie Griffin impression. :XD:

And first time front seats. Even as an ex-fangirl, dare I say it, couldn't help but enjoy taking in the lovely sight of his...coat tails! Loitering at the stage door, I was bombarded with ambivalence; inner squee vs. rational calm. Thankfully, it was more the latter and he was just downright lovely.

Even though my art is no where near as good as his, he still seemed keen on checking some of it so gave me Coops' email...oh, the honour! Really need to dig out my paints as it has been ages since I painted anyone. The only fangirly thing I will say is, his eyes are a lot more stunning in person!

~~~
Haven't been up to much lately. Got a place at Cardonald College which starts in September...be really nice to have some kind of active, stressful lifestyle again! Had a bit of a two month art block and basically attempting to draw anything was becoming chore-like but it seems to have disappeared for now. Expect caricature/portraits in the coming weeks; anyone who has just added me on their watchlist for Mario Bros fanart, I suggest you unwatch me or be in for a very long wait as I don't plan to do any for some time.
Reminiscing FTW
Journal Entry: Wed Mar 11, 2009, 12:37 PM
Last night, I watched Don Bleuth's 'Rock-A-Doodle' for the first time in over 10 years and despite being sleep deprived, I was astounded how much of it came rushing back to me. I was also surprised how many people remember watching it as a tyke, I thought I was only one!
I also bought 'Ferngully: The Last Rainforest' and 'American Tail' 1 & 2 to further enrich my inner child's new found glee. It's a wonderful feeling that must be cherished...that helps overlap the unwanted burden of sleep-related stress. Yes, sleep related. I'm stressed because I can't sleep properly and can't sleep properly because I'm stressed. Blasted vicious circles.
Anyway, expect fanart of mentioned movies in the coming days!
Another One Bytes The Dust...
Journal Entry: Tue Mar 3, 2009, 4:52 PM
After spending two days fixing my nuisance laptop (primarily wiping and installing and now in good working order), my big 1TB HD fell off the desk and died. Well, it's blinking and clicking a lot and basically not reading so I'm assuming it's dead. Two years worth of hard work, downloads and other personal odds and ends gone. Buying a new HD would only solve half the problem but I don't even have enough money (and probably never will) to do that.
As an artist, and a bit of a gadget lover, this is the worst possible thing that can happen. I'm never going to get that time back. If I had more patience in life, I probably wouldn't mind so much. I'm just glad the majority of my stuff's on here and on Y!
And I only just got over the disaster of a birthday I had. Didn't get a single card or pressie, nor quality time with close friends. (A few birthday wishes from yourselves would've been nice. Don't do it now, it's too late.) I'm still expecting a belated celebration...fuck knows when that'll be.
2008 was Hell. Birthday was shit and now this.
Unless, I become a gangster or win the lottery, give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill myself...
EDIT: BAWWING SESSION OVER
I opened it up and found out only one of the two SATA drives was buggered. Sounds like a loose head and thus, hopefully it can be fixed. The second one's fine but can only be read with the first if/when it's repaired.
Fortunately, I found a spare SATA drive I bought for my dead Mac, installed it onto the base, formatted it and voila. Eventually, I found the rational part of my brain and remembered most of the stuff destroyed can be replaced (movies, music, games, software, etc).
And don't worry, I'm not a manic depressive or suicidal in any way. When you baww like there's no tomorrow, you think the whole world will literally end! It could've been worse.
Eep!
Another year, another unit sliding on Death's abacus.
I have no idea what's in store today. Most of my friends work/have families and won't be available and my closest friend's broke after moving into her new flat. I can cope with not celebrating it with my family but if I don't get a card from them, I'll be gutted. Bros who I only see usually once a year visited me at Xmas so I'll understand if they don't drop by. It's hard to celebrate on their birthdays as they're always on the go so we tend to make up for each other whenever we can.
I had my super-awesome 21st last year so I'm not too fussed but nevertheless!
Gadgets, Emos and Were...owls
Journal Entry: Wed Nov 12, 2008, 6:23 PM
What an emotional yet gadget-ridden two weeks I've had!
Received my new (I say new, it's refurbished) lovely £200 PB laptop from ebay which works like a charm. *glee* My external devices were no longer alone when I came across MacDrive. Best program ever! *uber geekery glee* Upgraded my broadband account, got a new hub and an actual wireless signal and I'll save £15 a month. And today, I bought a new phone - an LG KP500 Cookie. It's blissss. Ideally, and as an excuse to fulfill my gadget indulgence, I would've liked the iPhone but it's too pricey plus, it's only on O2 (how racist lol). Also bought a couple of games; WarioWare : Smooth Moves and SSBB. Have yet to play it, see if it lives up to the hype (it genuinely looks like a good game, I have to say).
All this and I still have money in the bank, but they say money can't buy you happiness. Despite enjoying my new wares, I couldn't agree more...
!!EMO RANT ALERT!!
It's been over six months since I last spoke to my folks/since they walked out on me. However, I did receive an indirect email from my Dad (he was responding to my social worker who's been more like a friend and a Mum to me than anything else over the last few months). Without going into too much detail, he was basically blaming her for the decisions I made in regards to standing up for myself, even after explaining to him. I was hoping after all those months, the penny might've dropped but no. I'm more than aware how he feels but I wish he could take the blinkers off. I blame my (step)mum for his current closed-mindedness (she's also very opinionated and stubborn in her own right). She's been an antagonistic yet unconscious influence on him and both of them are unaware of it. I just hope she hasn't brainwashed him for good. I love him way too much and it breaks my heart. As his only daughter, I'm the only one who seems to notice the changes. I'm dreading Christmas as well. Will be the first time spending it without them and I don't have a lot of close friends who I could go to who live locally.
I'm fucked. :iconemoluigiplz:
Knowing it could be forever and a day before we kiss and make up, being single, living alone in a shitty town, heart aching to move elsewhere, and make new friends, I'm surprised I haven't resorted to drugs or alcohol...or even suicide. I guess the big pro I've gained from this heap of shit is strength and maturity. Woo.
/EMO RANT
Ah, that's better.
Coping with all of this drains me both emotionally and mentally. I slept erratically for almost a week, my head abusing me with all sorts of junk during the night and then trying to recover during the day (hence the owl reference).
I'm gonna attempt to write a short story, think it might prove to be just an effective form of personal expression than drawing itself. They say writing is an art form after all...
Journal Entry: Fri Sep 26, 2008, 1:23 PM
...sort of. Last week, a friend at work very kindly let me borrow an old laptop to work with until I'm able to afford a new one. With the way my budget's going, looks like it'll be a couple of months before I can buy a PC laptop let alone a big, shiny Macbook which I originally had my eye on (plus it's my preferred OS... looks like my 1TB external hard drive and iPod are gonna be lonely for a while... TT)
...but the main thing is, it does the job. As long as I've got Photoshop and t'internet, I'm happy!
I've an English course to get through (it isn't time consuming but I haven't been pulling my weight lately :/) and there's a possibility I might start working; if so, don't expect to see a lot of submissions. I'm also going to try and pull away from doing Mario Bro's fanart (including Waluigi!) as there's other things I want to get back to such as caricatures and original work..but don't fret, that doesn't mean I'm going to stop doing it altogether! I have my phases and basically I just need a break from this one. ;3
Other news:
I bought the new Wario Game today!  Looks good... can't wait to play it...! :excited:
Best weekend EVER! (said in the style of Comic Book Guy)
Despite being tipsy, I had an absolute ball. Everyone I met from the forums were really delightful and the band goes without say. We even had a few drinks with them afterwards although I wish I'd spoken to some of them more, (especially Adrian Stout (bassist - dark coat, white shirt) who I take a shine to) ^^; but regardless, they were just lovely!
Adrian Huge, the drummer (beard, yellow waistcoat) stayed around for the rest of the night so some of us tagged along, went to a bar, then back to his place till dawn for wine and some weird home movies (just little films he made of himself which were hilarious). Very rock and roll, I know lol :XD: He was an absolute gentleman throughout. The feeling still hasn't sunk in!
I'm a little hungover and sleep deprived (plus my feet are ripped to shreds) so I'm going to head back to bed to recover. It might be a few days till I'm properly back to reality so don't expect to see any submissions for a while!
:sleep:
Commissions are closed at the moment (I'll be studying again soon so I won't have much time to focus on any) but will give prices when I'm prepared to take requests. I'll need to do some original work and stuff for my portfolio so prepared to see very little fanart in the near future! xD If I've got time, I might do an art trade or the odd thing just for fun. ;>
Random Tosh:
Yesterday, I finally managed to unlock Waluigi on Mario Kart DS. I must have spent a good week abusing my thumbs whilst trying to bust the asses off the other players in the process...totally worth it. Rainbow Road may look pretty but God, I hate it SO MUCH! I've lost count how many times I got shoved off! DX
I also have to thank :iconfoolishlittlemortal: for the tips on Mario Strikers Charged Football; it's now becoming my favourite Wii game. Really need to be on the ball for most of it (no pun intended) and Crotch Chop Waluigi FTW! :XD: *needs to practice more playing as the other characters* Oh, and I still owe you some Night Dragons. ;p
