Ambassadors of Anarchy by Elusive-Angel Ambassadors of Anarchy by Elusive-Angel
The Middle-aged Ones, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson hang outside their old stomping ground in London's Soho, the birthplace and genesis of alternative comedy.

At last, a piece of work I'm actually passionate and f'king proud of. Only thing is, it makes the rest of my gallery look like a collection of children's fridge drawings... ach well, nothing wrong with a bit of practice and progress, I guess.

I painted this because, sadly, the photo doesn't exist. I've had the idea rattling around in my head for several months but wanted to wait till I had enough patience and perserverance before taking it on board. And by God, did it pay off.

From what I know, Ade is taking a break from comedy in pursuit of his punk-folk band, The Bad Shepherds (a lot of which was listened to during the making of this) and Rik is quite happy to take on any non-extraneous work (mostly voice-overs) that's up his street.

Whatever their future career choices, nothing should come between the titanium-bollocked bond, enriched with brotherly affection that's inflenced a generation (and generations to come) with anarcho-surrealistic gold, dislocated gold teeth and countless golden underpants.

~~~
Entirely painted in SAI. (I've used the program for over two years now and it has a lot of potential. I can't recommend it enough).
Tweaked in Photoshop CS3
Time taken: 35+ hours
I'm gutted this wasn't a commission... I could've made a bomb from it. Blast! I might start taking commishs soon; after I've recovered/hibernated for a month or so.
I reckon I would earn a good bit of Rik's 'company' in return for this. Haha!
Amazing picture on many levels - brilliant choice, great painting too. Especially like the colouring and the way you made the neon sign.
Gorgeousness! What a beautifully done tribute! Have you ever sent any of these pictures to Rik and /or Ade?
Thank you!
Nah, apart from Chris Barrie, I've never really written to any of my idols. Just met some of them. I am tempted to send this to them, though. With Rik not having a scoobie about 'puters, I'd probably have to make a little portfolio of everything to post. It'd be worth the trouble!
Ideally, I'd like to make full-sized prints and give them both in person. It'd be the last thing they'd expect to receive from a fan!
Nice one. :D Did you get to meet them afterwards? I imagine Ade would be a pretty down-to-earth kind of guy. Their new album's just smashing.
I did meet them and got my CD signed....well I say I did, I was actually stood next to my sis whilst she asked for me coz I got so terrified I was froze, was shaking and couldn't speak. Afterward I felt like a comeplete knob and my sis now says I have a new phobia of adrian edmondson lol. He was lovely though, it was just me being a wuss lol
I adore it. It doesn't make the rest of your work look bad at all, but it is pretty damn special in itself and I can see the amount of effort in it! I love the title too, it's so true.
This is incredible!
And about Ade moving on, he hasn't quit comedy (thank God), he's just taking a break to focus on music and farming. Apparently he and Rik have spoken of a reunion when they're old men :)
Now back to your drawing. I'm bursting with envy at your talent you have a real gift! I'm sure you get that a lot so pardon me for sounding like a broken record. Like always, you've captured these two perfectly and I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
You're right. I remember him saying something along those lines when Robert Llewellyn interviewed him in Carpool. Let's hope they do do something again in the not too distant future. Even if they become decrepit ol' bastards, I'm sure we'll still love them!
And thanks, I'm surprised at my level of satisfaction for this, even though I'll still be tempted to continue tweaking it once I've replaced my eyes. I suppose most artists, by law, are not allowed to be 100% happy with their work!
It's hard NOT to love them haha.
And yeah it' is kind of a law, but if we were always happy we'd never improve.
